Today I decided to try something new and incorporate a drawing lesson that I saw on
Art Projects for Kids‘ blog. I cannot draw but the instructions were so easy I thought it couldn’t hurt to try it with my kids. They like art and enjoy the summer art camp that we’ve enrolled them in over the past two summers.
Unfortunately, we had a few perfectionist fits during our first drawing lesson and I learned an important lesson that I had previously followed but didn’t follow this time. Do not draw an example for the kids. Even if you aren’t an artist yourself as they will compare theirs to yours and it leads to frustration and them asking you to help them with their drawing.
Still, I think it was a good first drawing class and I don’t think anyone was scarred for life!

That is a good idea… but I don’t know if my kids will protest about not having an example to see.
This year we are starting off with one page out of their Little Lamb’s Book of Art each day. They were a bit upset about it being for 3 years old and up(!) but are dutifully doing 1 page each day and learning step-by-step how to draw basic things.
