As part of our study on manatees we read a few more books about manatees, made a paperbag puppet and attended a workshop at Loggerhead Marinelife Center where the kids were able to handle a replica articulated manatee hand and skull of a manatee from Boneclones.
Our two favorite interesting facts that we learned about manatees are:
Manatees have no natural enemies—even sharks leave them alone!
Manatees have “hands” inside their front flippers and finger nails!
We also found some useful notebooking pages about manatees on the Enchanted Learning website. For more on our studies on manatees visit the Young Florida Naturalists Guide Blog.
