This year I am introducing Classical Music into our studies using the Classical Kids Curriculum.
We began with the DVD version of Beethoven lives upstairs and then I used the Teacher’s Guide for discussion points and activity ideas. Afterwards we listened to more of Beethoven’s music on CD and I read aloud from Ludwig Beethoven and the Chiming Bell Towers by Opal Wheeler.
Classical Music was not a part of my formal education and I have to say that I’m enjoying learning alongside the children. Even Cutie Pie (age 3) has been joining us.
The boys are now entering their 2nd year of playing the piano and they were especially excited when they heard Fur Elise as that is one of the pieces they are studying. It is one of my favorites and it brings a smile to my face to have my boys play that piece for me.
My plan is to introduce a new composer every 2-4 weeks and conclude our study of that composer with a notebooking page.
